KN4YZY amateur radio logo

Hi, I’m Corey, KN4YZY. I’m an amateur radio operator in Alexandria, Virginia, licensed since 2019, and this blog is where I keep all my ham radio activity in one place.

What you’ll find here

  • Daily How-Tos (7:00 AM, Monday to Saturday): step-by-step answers to the questions people ask me most, on the Icom IC-7300, the Yaesu FT-991A, Winlink, FT8/FT4 and handy gear. Wednesday is Winlink Day, with a weekly on-air challenge.
  • Ham radio news: new radios, events, Parks on the Air (POTA) and anything interesting happening in the hobby.
  • Blog of the Day: a daily spotlight on local DC-area club activities, new gear, a helpful how-to or a newer ham creator worth following.
  • My club activities: photos and notes from my time with the Mount Vernon Amateur Radio Club (K4US), on My MVARC Activities.

Why I do this

Club members and other hams are always asking me how to program a radio or set up a digital mode, and I’d love to see more people getting on the air and showing up to club events. If a post helps you make your first FT8 contact or send your first Winlink message, that’s a win. New to the hobby? My kn4yzy.com site has free practice exams for the Technician, General and Extra licenses.
