Snow on the ground didn’t stop us. On February 14 and 15, 2026, MVARC returned to the Mount Vernon greenhouse to put K4US on the air for President Washington’s birthday, with the club banner up, a free ham radio demo for visitors, and plenty of contacts in the log.
The George Washington Birthday Special Event is held each February to celebrate our first president’s birthday. It’s free and open to the public, especially anyone curious about ham radio. Members arrive around 8:30 AM on Saturday to set up, and the stations are usually on the air by 10 AM. Everyone is welcome to get on the air under the club call sign, K4US, and talk to people from around the world, and we love putting kids on the radio too. Saturday is the best day for newcomers and guests to give it a try. On Sunday a few members come back to make some final contacts before the stations come down late in the morning. To join us next year, email social@mvarc.org for details.
Location: The greenhouse at George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, Mount Vernon, Virginia
