One of the things I love most about this hobby is when hams step up for the community, and Ole Virginia Hams (W4OVH) out in Manassas do a lot of it. This fall they already handled communications for the Serve Our Willing Warriors ride, which drew 211 riders and raised more than $85,000 for veterans and their families.
Now they are gearing up for the holidays. The club will run communications for the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning and is asking for more volunteers, then will support the 80th Manassas Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 5. If you have never worked a public-service event, this is a friendly way to start.
Want to meet the group first? Their next monthly meeting is Tuesday, November 17, at 7:30 PM at the Buckhall VFD Hall in Manassas.
